Polytechnic Institute of Porto is looking for partners

The Polytechnic Institute of Porto (IPP), Portugal, was created in 1985 and involves 7 Schools: Education (ESE); Music and Performing Arts (ESMAE); Engineering (ISEP); Accounting and Administration (ISCAP); Management and Industrial Studies (ESEIG); Management and Technology (ESTGF); and Applied Health Technology (ESTSP). In 2011 over 16.000 students attended the seven Schools located in 6 cities within the Porto district.
The School of Accounting and Administration of Porto (ISCAP), the business school of IPP,  is located in S. Mamede de Infesta (Matoshinhos), very close to the IPP Campus, offering its 4000-strong student population a range of innovative programmes.

Over the years ISCAP has been trying to increase its international experience and has been a partner in several international networks, such as AFECA, SPACE, EdiNeb and in SOCRATES/Lifelong Learning Programme, namely in ERASMUS, MINERVA, GRUNDTVIG, COMENIUS and in LEONARDO. Nowadays, ISCAP is involved in several European projects under the LLL Programme, both as partner and coordinator. Its International Office is highly keen on the process of internationalisation and willing to increase the number of exchange programmes (for students, as well as for teachers and other staff) and develop intercultural experiences among its communities, being responsible for the highest rate of students’ mobility in Portugal. ISCAP is the school of IPP with the highest number of international students and is an example and reference for all the other schools.

ISCAP has expertise in managerial simulation and e-learning as well as in Marketing and Management of Touristic Activities; also has experience in participating in European projects both as partners and coordinators.

Resources
ISCAP is a national reference as far as business sciences are concerned, namely through the courses of Managerial Simulation which, besides exempting students from the internship required to access the Chamber of Chartered Accountants, aims to provide a demanding, complex, universal and technologically advanced business environment. It was introduced in the Accounting and Administration Degree of ISCAP in February 2003, as a mandatory subject with a total of 180 hours per year (16 ECTS – European Credit Transfer System). This model is based on the following conceptual basis: competences-oriented learning, pedagogical strategy based on the simulation of the business environment, organisation of systemic bases and continuous and wide spreading assessment.
Apart from this, ISCAP is equipped with modern and technologically advanced Multimedia and Marketing Centres:
CDI-CML (Centre for the Development and the Research in Communication, Multimedia and Language) is specially oriented for the development of theoretical and experimental research relevant to advanced training in professional areas in which Communication, Multimedia and Languages assume a central role. Comprising 4 fully-equipped multimedia labs and 2 interpreting labs, CML aims to provide students with a state-of-the-art environment and the latest technology, set up to develop the skills demanded by the labour market. Also, it offers a vast range of linguistic and communication services, involving lecturers, students and alumni.
ISCAP also has 2 fully-equipped Digital Marketing labs, which encompass the practice of promoting products or services via the use of electronic distribution channels in order to swiftly and relevantly reach its consumers in a customised and efficient way, resorting to specific hardware, software and high-end technologies that enable the digital processing of information. The resources provide students with the necessary skills within the Digital Marketing area of expertise. Areas such as Web Publishing and Print Publishing are at the core of the Digital Marketing Centre focus, and in no way does it neglect the training of students in Design Management and the organisation of software for specific purposes.
The Unit for Innovation in Education (PAOL) began its activities in 2003 in order to offer pedagogical and technical support to all teachers and students at ISCAP providing a support to the implementation of computer mediated education. This project aims to enable the development of complementary initiatives to assist in-person learning. In 2003, the project was launched with WebCT platform, however in 2005 an open source platform (Moodle) was chosen to work with instead and it has been in use ever since.
PAOL emerges as a way of supporting on-site learning, allowing students to more easily access their study materials, and promoting communication between students and teachers. Among other guidelines, its mission is accomplished via the implementation of workshops for teachers to learn how to use Moodle, the creation of practical handbooks, the organization and spread of e-learning events and the technical management of academic material and its online display.
PAOL has also been involved in several national projects and collaborated with international projects within the e-learning area of expertise, thus having a large number of publications in the field.

Founded in 2007, ISCAP’s Centre for Intercultural Studies (CEI) develops applied and fundamental research and co-operates with other national and international institutions in scientific, technical and cultural programmes. It comprehends the whole intercultural and interdisciplinary field created by the experience of teachers and researchers, as well as contacts and opportunities for cultural interchange, and by scientific and editorial projects. CEI is a member of several international networks, collaborates with numerous HEIs and its team is composed not only of lecturers and students from ISCAP, but also of fellow researchers from other national and international institutions, and has the support of a renowned international Advisory Board.
As of 2011, ISCAP is getting more and more involved with Voluntary and Youth programmes in order to increase its social responsibility within the society. The project IPP Social intends tu assure equal opportunities and the social integration of all students, aiming at new social responses and at the adaptation of individual needs.
