Kick-off meeting on Erasmus Mundus Partnership project

The Kick Off and Selection Meeting was held in Lviv on January 28-29, 2010, within the framework of the Erasmus Mundus Program in Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine (BMU area).

According to the 2010 call results, the consortium of universities led by the University of Deusto, was selected to implement in 2011 the Action 2 “Partnership” of the Erasmus Mundus Program. Currently six universities from Ukraine take part in consortium http://www.embmu.eu/en/partners.html

Coordinators of Erasmus Mundus Programs and experts from higher education institutions from 12 European countries including Ukraine took part in the Kick Off and Selection Meeting. The meeting participants elaborated on the selection procedure and the results within the Action 2 of the Erasmus Mundus Program.

The meeting revealed that, to date, the number of received applications for Undergraduate, Master, Doctoral and Postdoctoral studies is almost four times higher than the expected level which demonstrates the high demand for such programs. Analysis of obtained applications shows that female applicants are traditionally more active than males. The majority of applications were received from Ukraine and Belarus with the largest portion of applications received from Ivan Franko University of Lviv and from Belarus State University. About 80% of the total load of applications from Belarus related to Undergraduate program, and about 50% of applications from Moldova and Ukraine concerned Master studies, while applications for postdoctoral studies were in minority. Candidates from Spain, Italy and Lithuania were more active than other European students to apply for studies in BMU area.

The two day meeting involved a number of discussions and presentation with one of them being dedicated to the overview of the current Tempus IV call and results of the previous one. The mentioned presentation followed by the row of consultations with Universities on the application peculiarities and features of the 4th Tempus IV call.

The Action 2 of Erasmus Mundus supports the following measures:

• establishment of partnerships between European HEIs and HEIs from the targeted third countries in order to organise and implement structured individual mobility;

• scholarships for European and third countries individuals, of various length and of different level of studies - depending on the priorities defined for the third countries concerned.
